Ask us anything!

  • Do I have to get a performance evaluation?
If you are participating in a training program, you are required to get an evaluation. Without a baseline measurement, you'll never know if you've improved. You'll never know which areas need more work. Essentially, you're like a rudderless ship. Being able to look back three months, six months, or a year and actually see measurable improvement from all your hard work is not only motivational. It's necessary if you want to continue to make progress.
  • Can a six year-old participate in the sports performance program?
In our experience, most 6 year-olds are not ready for this type of training, but we realize that there are exceptions. We handle all athletes who do not meet age requirements on a case-by-case basis.
  • Can lifting weights stunt growth?
No one asks if putting a helmet and pads onto a 7 year old and asking him to run into other 7 year olds will stunt his growth. That's a legitimate risk to fracturing growth plates. Lifting weights is not. There are countless studies that disprove this idea. It is generally agreed that kids as young as 7 are perfectly safe working with the proper load in a controlled environment.
  • How long until I see results with sports performance training?
The real question is, how long are you willing to put in the time and effort to achieve those results? Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was a 4.3 40-yard dash and 5% body fat. General rule of thumb; the worse off you are, the quicker and more dramatic the results will be. An athlete with a 16-inch vertical jump could realistically add 6 inches in a month, which is pretty good. But an athlete with a 39-inch vertical jump trying to get to 40-inches could take months, if not longer. Nature of diminishing returns.
  • Should I be training during the season?
100% yes. In-season training is as vital as off-season training. The key differences are that your focus shifts to weight training since you're getting enough high velocity work from your sport. The other difference is that your training volume comes way down as to not over train. Think about this, you spend all off-season getting strong, then you stop lifting weights for 3 months? One, you get weaker as the season wears on. And two, you have to start over next off-season since you lost all your gains. Avoid those pitfalls with in-season training.
  • Can I get better by just practicing my sport?
How good you become at your sport is ultimately limited by your athletic potential. You can be very skiled in the technical aspects of your sport; however, you will struggle against stronger, faster and more explosive opponents. Sports performance training helps you maximize your athletic potential, allowing you to run faster, hit harder and jump higher. Not only that, you will significantly improve the way you feel as you move. Your risk of injury will diminish. And your confidence will increase. So, yes, you will get better by just practicing your sport. But you will not be the absolute BEST you can be without sports performance training.
  • Can I choose my instructor?
If you have an instructor in mind for hitting, pitching or catching, let us know and we'll make sure that you're placed with them if their schedule allows for it.
  • How do I get started with private lessons?
Please fill out our "Get Started" form on the home page and a coach will be in contact with you about scheduling lessons. Lessons are always scheduled through your instructor. Upon your first visit, the front desk give you some paperwork to fill out, and will go over different membership options with you. Payment will also be handled at the front desk.
  • What if I need to cancel my lesson?
Please give your instructor at least 24 hours notice if you cannot make your lesson. If you do not give a 24 hour notice, you will be billed for that lesson. Our intructors have limited availability and many have waiting lists. Giving them 24 hours notice allows them to fill in the newly vacant time slot with another client.
  • What private lessons are available?
We offer private hitting, pitching, catching and fielding instruction for both baseball and softball players. Each coach specializes in certain areas, so you may have more than one instructor.
  • Do I need a membership to do lessons?
No, you don't have to have a membership. You'll just pay non-member rates for your lessons.
  • Why do you need my credit card on file?
Memberships are 12 month agreements. If you pay monthly, to ensure on-time payment, we do require you keep a valid credit card on file during the length of the agreement. If you don't want to have your card charged, you can make a payment before it is due at the front desk.
  • Is there any way I don't have to have a card on file?
If you wish to not place a card on file, you can remain a non-member, or you can pay your membership in full. A yearly membership paid in full is discounted at $250.
  • Does membership discount sports performance training.
Our sports performance program is already heavily discounted. Memberships at this time only discount private baseball and softball lessons.
  • Can I cancel my membership?
Memberships are 12 month agreements. If you feel like you cannot commit to 12 months, we recommend that you don't purchase the membership. Only under extenuating circumstances may a membership be canceled.
  • What does a membership include?
A Sports U Membership gives you discounted rates on lessons, camps, and clinics. It also gives you access to our batting cages and pitching lanes when not in use by instructors. No reservations necessary.
  • Do I have to do an auto-pay?
Yes, all sports U participants must do an auto-pay for memberships and packages longer than one month. You can always pay your balance at the front desk before it's due to circumvent the auto-pay.
  • Do you give refunds?
You may only be refunded for memberships and sports peformance training for one month if you did not participate in any of the facility's programming. Refunding multiple months is not allowed. It is the customer's responsiblity to contact Sports U to cancel any ongoing auto-payments.
  • Do I have to have a credit card on file?
If you are a Sports U member, you must maintain a valid credit card on file unless you pay in full.
  • My bank says I was charged for a lesson today, but my lesson was last week"
Depending on your bank and the credit card that you use, it may take 3-5 business days before your transaction is posted on your bank account. For example, a lesson you paid for on the 10th may not show on your bank statement until the 15th.
