Do I have to get a performance evaluation? If you are participating in a training program, you are required to get an evaluation. Without a baseline measurement, you'll never know if you've improved. You'll never know which areas need more work. Essentially, you're like a rudderless ship. Being able to look back three months, six months, or a year and actually see measurable improvement from all your hard work is not only motivational. It's necessary if you want to continue to make progress.
-
Can a six year-old participate in the sports performance program? In our experience, most 6 year-olds are not ready for this type of training, but we realize that there are exceptions. We handle all athletes who do not meet age requirements on a case-by-case basis.
-
Can lifting weights stunt growth? No one asks if putting a helmet and pads onto a 7 year old and asking him to run into other 7 year olds will stunt his growth. That's a legitimate risk to fracturing growth plates. Lifting weights is not. There are countless studies that disprove this idea. It is generally agreed that kids as young as 7 are perfectly safe working with the proper load in a controlled environment.
-
How long until I see results with sports performance training? The real question is, how long are you willing to put in the time and effort to achieve those results? Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was a 4.3 40-yard dash and 5% body fat. General rule of thumb; the worse off you are, the quicker and more dramatic the results will be. An athlete with a 16-inch vertical jump could realistically add 6 inches in a month, which is pretty good. But an athlete with a 39-inch vertical jump trying to get to 40-inches could take months, if not longer. Nature of diminishing returns.
-
Should I be training during the season?100% yes. In-season training is as vital as off-season training. The key differences are that your focus shifts to weight training since you're getting enough high velocity work from your sport. The other difference is that your training volume comes way down as to not over train. Think about this, you spend all off-season getting strong, then you stop lifting weights for 3 months? One, you get weaker as the season wears on. And two, you have to start over next off-season since you lost all your gains. Avoid those pitfalls with in-season training.

Can I get better by just practicing my sport? How good you become at your sport is ultimately limited by your athletic potential. You can be very skiled in the technical aspects of your sport; however, you will struggle against stronger, faster and more explosive opponents. Sports performance training helps you maximize your athletic potential, allowing you to run faster, hit harder and jump higher. Not only that, you will significantly improve the way you feel as you move. Your risk of injury will diminish. And your confidence will increase. So, yes, you will get better by just practicing your sport. But you will not be the absolute BEST you can be without sports performance training.
